Grand Teton 2010
We spent the second week of our vacation in Grand Teton National park. On July 21, we survived an unusual full day thunderstorm. Normally this time of year thunder showers commonly roll in in the afternoon, giving mountain climbers most of the morning to reach the summits and be back to safety by noon. This storm trapped many climbers, and two of them unfortunately were killed -- one by a lightening strike. Helicopter search and rescue brought 23 climbers, many with injuries due to lightening and exposure, off the mountain that day. We were safely sheltered on the valley floor but heard the helicopters all day. The red rock canyon (last few photos) is Snow Canyon State Park near St. George, Utah.
