Linda missed not camping with us (i.e. with Arnold) at Shaver so we had to come up with another dog-friendly idea. We decided on two nights in Death Valley and two in Valley of Fire, Nevada. Death Valley was a first for Kelly and Arnold. None of us had been to Valley of Fire.

So, while it wasn't quite as dog-friendly as Arnold would have liked due to a dearth of shade and some warmer than hoped for temperatures, at least in Valley of Fire he was allowed to join us on the trails. This is unusual for a State or National Park.

Highlights in D.V. included Dante's View, Badwater Basin, Mesquite Flat Dunes, Artist's Palette, Golden Canyon, and Zabriskie Point. While Arnold and I waited in the Badwater parking lot (no dogs on the trail here), a very generous fellow tourist shared his steak and potatos lunch with Arnold. Happy puppy!

Valley of Fire was amazing. Beautiful red and white striped rock formations, giant red rock walls reminicent of Arches NP in Utah, and a remnant of the set of Star Trek Generations, where Kirk's death scene was filmed. The bridge was spectacularly underwhelming.

Kelly deserves a special thank you for saving the day in Valley of Fire. You can ask her about it.
